About Poppys Biotech Pvt Ltd
Poppys Group of Companies, with an annual turnover of USD 100 million, is the brainchild of our Chairman, Dr. A. Sakthivel. Hailing from Tirupur, in Southern India, Dr. Sakthivel began his entrepreneurial journey in 1973 as a young and ambitious businessman. Through hard work, dedication, and forward-thinking trade practices, he established Poppys Knitwear Pvt. Ltd., which has grown into one of India’s foremost knitwear exporters. His tireless efforts have not only elevated the company to new heights but also positioned Tirupur as a globally recognized center for the knitwear industry.
In line with the group’s vision for diversification, M/s. Poppys Biotech Private Limited was incorporated with the primary objective of manufacturing and selling ethanol—an organic compound primarily used as a motor fuel and commonly blended with petrol as a biofuel additive. Ethanol is typically derived from sugarcane and grain-based raw materials such as broken rice and maize.
Recognizing the growing demand and strategic importance of ethanol in India, the company proposes to set up a grain-based distillery unit with a production capacity of 200 Kilo Litres Per Day (KLPD). To facilitate this, land has been acquired at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Cheyyar, Thiruvannamalai District.
The key raw materials for ethanol production—broken rice and maize—will be sourced from various suppliers in and around the proposed location. Indigenous biofuel production presents a strategic opportunity for the nation by reducing dependence on imported petroleum products. In support of this, the Ministry of Petroleum has already achieved a 20% ethanol blending milestone and has set an indicative target of 30% blending by 2030 under the Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP).
